The meeting point on Sunday at two o’clock

„Abonement 007“, 24.10.2010 Pärnu Town Hall. TORMIS-PÄRT-LISZT. Kai Kallastu (soprano), Diana Liiv (piano). Round-table discussion lead by Leonora Palu (Piia Kajando - MuKriErikursus 2010 VKA)

„Abonement 007“ took place 4th time this autumn. Piano work „Variatsioonid Arinuška tervenemise puhul“ of Arvo Pärt; „Neli kildu,“ “Kimbuke tähti“ of Veljo Tormis, Ferenc Liszt`s Hungary rhapsody number 2 and „Kolm Petrarca sonetti“ were performed by soprano Kai Kallastu and pianist Diana Liiv.

Although I contemplate in this article mostly about cultural managment, I must say that Kai Kallastu „Petrarca sonetts of Liszt were peformed marvellously.

The town hall of Pärnu (raekoda) is a little bit old and abrased, but warm, honorable and far away from euro-perfect milieu for such a chamber concert.

I wondered why there were not any young people. If we want to grow new generations of concert visitors we must strive. It is not bad to experiment with new different tricks of culture marketing and apply professional‘s knowledge into the subject field. But just to wait if someone accidentally come? That is not gonna happen!

It is a good idea to give a word to the audience having a round table discussion with the performers after the concert. But I would like to recommend, that the performers should be amongst of the audience. And, why not speak also before the concert, talk about some technical  details for example.

There were the oportunity to address questions to the pianist Diana Liiv about her studies. The question who is her favourite composer she answered that every composer is like a pearl. At now she is intressted in pianists of 20th century. There also came questions concerning technical details of singing and Kai Kallastu´s self-confidence and knowing what she is doing was impressive.

They are going to peform the same programme in Tallinn in november. Hopefully they are than better in shape in playing together, because the admitted that rehearsal time befor this concert was to short.

Leaving the concert I was happy to enjoy such a good experience
